Anxious But Not Alone
by Dr. Kari Barron
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?”
— 1 Corinthians 3:16
You’re Not the Only One
Feeling depressed, stressed, or anxious doesn’t make you broken—it makes you human. My sweet friend Tria recently texted me this verse above, and it stopped me in my tracks. What a beautiful reminder that the Creator of the universe actually chooses to dwell within us—even on the days when we’re exhausted, lonely, or overwhelmed.
If you’ve ever wondered, “Am I the only one who feels this way?”—you’re not. That’s just a lie from the enemy trying to isolate you.
When the Weight Feels Too Heavy
When my family moved from California to Texas, I felt alone. We left behind our community, our routines, and everything familiar. For a long while, it didn’t feel like an adventure—it just felt hard. But God gently reminded me that I wasn’t alone. He placed amazing new people in my life and helped me stay connected with friends across the miles.
Even in loneliness or chaos, He is in your midst—with every breath you take.
When your workload feels crushing or your emotions are running high, pause and remember:
You are God’s temple. His Spirit dwells in you.
Why You’re Feeling This Way
Anxiety and depression often come with racing thoughts:
- Is there a way out of this rut?
- Do I have to just live with it—or medicate it?
- What’s really causing this?
The truth? You are not just a body with symptoms. You are a whole person—physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. When one area is off balance, it affects them all.
In my practice, I see this every day. Emotional stress can cause physical symptoms, and physical imbalance can cause emotional distress. When we treat only one layer, the others keep crying out for attention.
Healing Starts from the Inside Out
Psalm 41:3 promises,
“The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.”
God’s design for healing is complete. He doesn’t just patch up the surface—He restores from within. You were created to heal, because your body and spirit were designed by Him to work together.
Psalm 139 reminds us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Every day of your life was written by God before it began. That means He already knows your struggles and your solutions.
The Power of Thought
When you’re stuck in your head, thoughts can spiral into chaos.
2 Corinthians 10:5 calls us to
“take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.”
Truth breaks the spiral.
God’s promises silence the lies.
That’s why I give Daily Affirmations to my clients—reminders straight from Scripture that re-anchor them in truth:
- You are loved.
- You are chosen.
- You are never alone.
Feelings come and go, but God’s promises remain constant. When you shift your focus from fear to faith, healing begins to unfold.
Make the Shift: From “Stuck” to Strong
The next time anxious thoughts rise up, stop and ask:
Am I focusing on my limitations—or on God’s limitless power?
You were not created to live in fear. You were created to live in freedom. His Spirit within you is your Helper and Healer.
