Your Guide to Mercury Detox

Discovering high levels of mercury in your body can be alarming—but don’t worry. I’m here to help you regain control of your health with clear, practical steps for safe mercury detoxification and exposure prevention. Before you rush to “get it all out,” take a pause. Detoxing too quickly can be dangerous.



Let’s walk through this step-by-step so you can heal wisely, gently, and safely—the way God designed your body to heal.


Step 1: Avoid Mercury Sources

The first step in detoxing is prevention—stop the inflow before opening the outflow.


Dental Fillings

The most common source of mercury exposure is silver (amalgam) fillings. All silver fillings contain mercury. If you plan to have them removed, only use a SMART-certified dentist trained in safe removal.

Mercury exposure can also come from your spouse’s fillings, especially during sleep when detox pathways are most active. Even speaking often in public settings can increase exposure as mercury vapor releases.


Seafood

All seafood contains some mercury—whether from fresh or salt water. Choose smaller fish like sardines or anchovies, which have lower mercury accumulation than larger fish such as tuna, swordfish, or halibut.


Hidden Household Sources

Mercury can appear in unexpected places:

  • Fluorescent bulbs and mildew-resistant paints
  • Plastics, new carpet, and synthetic fabrics that off-gas
  • Contact-lens solutions and skin-lightening creams containing mercury compounds
  • Thimerosal (a mercury preservative) found in some vaccines and medications

Even your car’s new-car smell can contain mercury vapor—the foggy film that forms on warm windows is a visible sign.


Occupational Exposures

Jobs in gold or coal mining, agriculture (fungicides), sensor manufacturing, or crematorium work often bring higher risk. As with any toxin, prevention is the most powerful protection.


Step 2: Support with Dietary Changes

Your diet fuels detoxification.
Start with clean, nourishing foods that help your body process toxins efficiently.

  • Choose organic produce and lean proteins to raise glutathione levels—your body’s master antioxidant.
  • Avoid alcohol, processed sugars, and sodas that slow liver function.
  • Hydrate well—drink at least half your body weight in ounces of pure water each day.

Step 3: Open Elimination Pathways

Before any detox, make sure your elimination systems are open and working. The liver, kidneys, lymphatics, and gut all must function smoothly to move toxins out.

Support them through:

Remember, with mercury detox, slow and steady wins the race.


Step 5: Amalgam Removal

When you have amalgam fillings, timing is key. If you’re already symptomatic, start a gentle detox first to reduce your mercury load before removal.

Once you’re ready, a SMART-trained biological dentist will take proper safety measures to prevent additional exposure.
